The JD Edwards innovation
JD Edwards is an enterprise resource planning suite for small to medium organisations. The system is traditionally hosted on-premises, but through the Blue Crystal and NDevr collaboration, we can enable any customer to run it from the cloud.
The Challenge
Our client faced multiple challenges that hindered its operational efficiency. Paramount was the burden of outdated database versions. Struggling with Oracle version 112.0.3, our client was facing instability and lacking assurances of future support. Additionally, performance issues plagued the system, exacerbated by non-scalable custom code. As the client base grew, so did the strain on the system, with persistent memory errors hinting at underlying bugs. Backup and recovery concerns loomed large as well, as the existing Veeam snapshot-based backups proved inadequate. Our client urgently needed a robust, dedicated database backup strategy. To compound matters, the absence of a Disaster Recovery (DR) environment left the company vulnerable to potential business disruptions.

With performance optimisation as a priority, we delved deep into diagnostics and tuning, targeting and rectifying bottlenecks, particularly within custom code segments. We crafted a tailored RMAN backup strategy to fortify our client’s data integrity and slash recovery times. Additionally, we introduced a bespoke data purging and archiving regimen, streamlining database size management for smoother operations.

The upgrade to Oracle 12c and the resolution of scalability issues injected newfound stability and turbocharged system performance.
